The correct and step-by-step method of doing waterproofing is given below.
1. Surface cleaning and preparation
The success of waterproofing depends 70% on surface preparation.
- Moisture check: The roof must be completely dry before starting coating.
- Cleaning: Dust, soil, moss, old paint or poor waterproofing present on the roof is completely cleaned with a wire brush or grinder machine.
- Repair of cracks: The cracks present in the roof are cleaned by cutting them in ‘V’ shape and filled with polymer mortar or PU sealant.
2. Primer Application
- A good quality epoxy or acrylic primer should be applied to a clean and dry roof.
- The primer should penetrate into the smallest pores of the roof and form a strong bond between the concrete and the waterproofing chemical.
It should be allowed to dry for 4 to 6 hours.
